The Gender Advocacy and Women Resource Centre (GAWRC) yesterday held a powerful community town hall meeting in Sabagreia Community, Bayelsa State, as part of activities marking the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The engagement brought together community leaders, women, youths, and other residents in an open dialogue on the rising cases of gender-based violence and digital violence, their harmful impacts, and the urgent need for collective action to end all forms of abuse. Participants openly shared experiences, asked questions, and received guidance on prevention, reporting mechanisms, and survivor support.

Following the town hall meeting, GAWRC, alongside community members, embarked on a long awareness walk across the community, carrying placards and engaging residents in conversations to amplify the message that GBV in any form is unacceptable. The walk drew significant support and attention, reinforcing community ownership of the fight against violence.

GAWRC commended the traditional leaders, youths, and residents of Sabagreia Community for their active participation and commitment to protecting women, girls, and vulnerable persons. The Centre reaffirmed its dedication to sustained community engagement, advocacy, and survivor support services across Bayelsa State and beyond.
